DVD content analysis

The title of the DVD is show in the top left hand corner- it is the first thing you see when you look at it.

The colors used are gold, silver, black and white, this attracts attention and indicates that it is set in space and is a sci-fi film, the color gold may also suggest connotations of wealth and power.

The character in the top right (Luke) is shown lit up, the second thing you see and is on his own from the other characters shown on the DVD cover, this suggests he is the main character.

The props and costumes used also give an indication of the genre of film, as they suggest it is not set in present time and the gun suggests it may be an action film.

Low camera angles are used on each of the characters, this suggests connotations of power.

The DVD cover has been edited so that the characters appear next to each other when they are all separate photographs.

Six photographs are shown on this cover.

As only one character appears on the front of the DVD cover, this would suggest that this is the main character, his facial expression also suggests this.

The red used suggests connotations of evil, and appears to be blood, indicating that the series is a crime drama.

We know that it is a series because it says 'complete first season' at the bottom.

The title is shown in the bottom right and is the last thing to be seen when looking at the DVD cover.

Just as the Star Wars DVD cover, there are separate photographs showing scenes from the text.

The lighting on his face suggests the type of character he is - mysterious.
Four photographs are shown on this DVD cover.

The film which is called the dark night is written along the side just as the other two covers as well as on the front cover.

Dark colors are used (black and blue) which reflects on the name of the text and shows that this film may be 'dark'.

The front cover has used editing as a logo for batman is shown made of what looks like fire.

The back of the DVD has a slogan at the top (Out of the darkness, comes the knight) which is a play on words as knight sounds like light and also as the name of the text is the dark  knight.

Again, like the other texts several pictures are shown on the back, showing scenes from the film.

The scenes from the film(photographs) are shown merged together on the back cover.

All three DVD covers show their company (warner bros, paramount, THX), they all also have descriptions of the film on the back as well as showing the cast used (their names). The DVD logo is also shown on all 3 covers. Other DVD covers show the age certificate given to the text. On the Dark Knight cover the warner brothers logo is shown 3 times, as well as the DVD logo which is also shown 3 times. When making my DVD cover, i will take pictures of the background and characters separately and edit them together, this technique is used in the above DVD covers.
